This book reveals how the Indian Railways, one of the world’s largest
state-owned enterprises, transformed from near bankruptcy to post an
annual surplus of Rs 25,000 crore in 2008 without burdening poor
consumers. Drawing important lessons that can be applied to other public
sector services like water supply, energy, irrigation, and public
transport, this book will be useful for policymakers, management
professionals, students, as well as general readers.
