About the Author
Burton Stein was an American historian who specialised in Indian history. He was born in 1926 in Chicago. He wrote his PhD dissertation on the Economic Functions of South India’s Tirupati Temple. As a research scholar, his main contributions were related to pre-modern and colonial India.
